The capstone of the Early Music Festival

On Friday, November 17 at 7:30 the members of Musica Spei invite you to join them in the glorious acoustic environment of St. Anne Church for the Rochester Early Music Festival Gala Concert. Presented in "prism" format, singers and instrumentalists surround the audience with music, flowing freely and without interruption from one performance to another. You will experience a broad sampling of the breadth and depth of early music during the performance, hosted this year by WXXI's Mona Seghatoleslami. A concerto of Handel's performed by the Eastman Collegium Baroque Orchestra is a highlight of the evening, while the Eastman Viol Consort will delight with selections by Byrd. A number of women composers are represented on the program: chant of Hildegard von Bingen performed by Scivias, two works by Barbara Strozzi presented by Tormenta d'Amore, and madrigals of Vittoria Aleotti sung by Musica Spei. Alex Little showcases a work by Nicolaus Bruhns on St. Anne’s magnificent organ, while Pedro Sperb offers a dulcet contrast with selections on baroque guitar. If you love early music and its many talented proponents based here in Rochester and the Finger Lakes region, you won't want to miss this annual event, now in its 22nd year.
